Default Oil leaking from grommet

Hey guys,

I've got a 2000 Road King and it leaks a small amount of oil out the front of the case, where there are two wires coming through a rubber grommet. It only leaks when it is running and hot.

Does anyone know how to change this grommet? Do I need to get into the case and the stator, or can it be replaced from the outside? How about adding some type of sealant to the grommet?

I've got a shop manual, but can't find where it shows or discusses this grommet.

Thanks for your help!

put a couple raw eggs in your oil... when the oil gets hot and tries to leak, the egg will easily seal any leaks. Man it must be getting late... I've gotta get off this thing.

I believe that is the wire coming out from the stator (front of the primary, left side?). I just changed my stator. That grommet is built in to the stator wire, there is no way to change it without changing the stator.

Maybe you could pull on the wires a little and/or use a small screw driver to gently make sure it's seated correctly. In your manual, look in the section about installing a new stator. The manual does mention getting that grommet set in that section of the book.

Maybe a little high temp sealant would help.

Hope that helps.

Ride on, ride well.

You could try to put a thin film of RTV onto the gromet, clean the hole up and put it back into place. That may work for a while!

As with the above posts.
We're going to presume this is the stator plug on the front left of the primary case.
This seal is molded to the harness and can not be changed separately.
Too much oil in the cae maybe, but not likely as there is no real pressure in this
case, except what is generated by the oil and air getting hot.
Either it is not fully seated or has deteriorated somewhat.
Using a VERY small screwdriver and patience and CAUTION you can try to work it very
slowy up out of the case about 1/32 of an inch. This plug(seal) is installed from the inside out.
Or using a VERY small screw driver and a small pick.
Use the driver to push the rubber over a little bit and work some orange high temp
silicone down in between the rubber and the case all around.
Let setup for a couple hours then ride.
BUT BE VERY CAREFUL, IF YOU DAMAGE THE PLUG YOU WILL BE BUYING A NEW STATOR
APPROXIMATELY $150 PLUS LABOR!!

RTV Room Temp Vulcanizing sealant available at any auto parts store just ask for RTV

Used as a gasket sealer or sometimes as a gasket by itself.

Mine did the same thing...It's just an annoyance thing. I tried to reseal the grommet, route the wires up and then tie etc....Never could get it to stop. The only way is the replace the stator. Just wait, it will go bad in time. It would be pretty hard to lose enough primary fluid to do any damage anyway. Your bike is just "marking its territory".

RTV silicone gasket sealer in a tube.
normally all you see is black or blue.
orange is high temp and made for sealing around intake manifolds.
is more heat, oil, fuel resistant.
most auto parts stores have it.
a little goes a long way.
when doe just wipe off any excess that shows.
