does just changing out from the stock speakers make a difference

I replaced my factory speakers with Biketronics 7.1's and then switched out the rear speakers for Kicker KSC67's. I still wasn't done and added a SS 4.520 amp and topped it off with a Kenwood X998 HU. Now, I can hear my tunes at 80 MPH on the highway. It wasn't cheap but it wasnt super expensive either...

It is - you won't be disappointed with that combo. I get good sound at 80 mph with ThunderHeaders. It's day and night over stock. Just to let you know, I tried it with just the BT Titan II 7.1s speaker change at first. It was better, but you can tell that with an amp it would make a HUGE difference - and it does. I talked to the folks at Biketronics who are great to deal with. They said the same thing.... you can change the speakers alone, but it will leave you wanting more. They were right along with the folks in the audio forum. The weak link now is the head unit. They like to distort really early compared to aftermarket head units. I just didn't want to loose my CB and intercom at this time so I still have the stock H/U and it works OK for my needs at this time.

Just like the title says. Does just changing out the stock speakers for something better really make that big of a difference without an amp? I would like my radio to sound better, not louder. I am fine with the volume of my radio just am not that happy with the quality of the sound or general lack of depth if that gives a decent enough explanation.
