I cranked mine over for 3-20 second spins. Put the plugs in and fired her up. Your fretting over nothing.

2010 Limited with some stuff!!

The three 20 second spins with the plugs out should show some pressure on the gauge.

I always make sure I have some pressure before actually firing the motor.
Because if there is not pressure, damage will occur before you figure it out.

But I do add about 6 ounces of oil before closing up the pushrod tubes.

Well hope it doesn't have that goofy whoosh sound that the shovels had when they were accelerating running down the road, if any of you know what I mean?

Did it. Let her run for a few seconds. Must be a real slow learner because what I'm now fretting is that there was no oil pressure.

Will need to see oil pressure build up before I try to fire her up again. Dove back into the cam chest again. No oil build up in the chest like there was when I first opened it up, but it did seem like the pump and plate were oilier then when I had buttoned it up. Probably pull the oil pump off of the camplate for a thorough inspection.

Any other ideas?

Did the lifters and top end start to quiet down? If you didn't disturb the oil pump to begin with, I think it's probably fine. I know you let it run but probably not as long as you think ;-).
But if you're like me and many of the rest of us, you won't have peace of mind until you re-do it. What's a gasket a few o rings and a couple hours right?

Sounds like you'll never, ever have this thing fired up, because it takes quite a while for oil pressure to build on with a mechanical pump that was just rebuilt.

If you're going to be a shade-tree mechanic, faith in yourself you must have (yoda voice)

Remove the oil pressure switch and make sure you have a bucket in front of the hole. Remove spark plugs and turn the engine over......you will have oil coming out right away.
