Default TourPak Removal Advise Please on Ultra

If anyone has removed your TourPak, I would like your opinion/advise.

I have a 2013 Ultra Classic and I'm trying to remove the TourPak with the least outlay of cash. I don't want to spend the $550 for the HD Quick Detach Kit because once I remove it, I'll probably never put it back on.

If you only took the TourPak off and left the chrome TourPak support it mounts on would it look bad? I'm envisioning leaving on the TourPak support bracket, but attaching on the top of it some kind of metal/chrome plate and on top of it a luggage rack of some type. This would serve as a luggage rack and eliminate the need for the Quick Detach Kit or the 4 Point Docking Hardware.

Having never removed my TourPak, I don't know if this is possible or if it would look bad/stupid.

Any opinions/advise would be appreciated.

you can do that.

once the T/P is off the mount ( 4 bolts), you'll see it is only another 4 bolts to remove the mount.

when you do this have someone support the T/P lid while you remove the bolts

some guys roll up the wiring and tuck under the seat.

there are ways to relocate the am/fm antenna- I use a $12 rubber stubby from pepboys

with the mount off you will need to mount your plate.

I use a roadking signal bar with plate mount and integral plate light- and solid red taillight lens.

I'm saying only remove the TourPak and leave the chrome mount the TourPak mounts onto and use this as your luggage rack. It looks like the existing mount would need something mounted on top to cover the 4 bolt holes that was used to mount the TourPak. This would also retain the license plate mount.

Looks really sharp. I see you have the 4 point docking hardware kit. Does the 4 point docking hardware kit cover the open slots where the original bars came though to hold the TourPak?

yes you can do that...but I bet you end up loosing the T/P mount too- eventually.

pull your seat and figure out the wiring- where to disconnect etc.
that is the more challenging part for some riders

You can hide the wiring behind the right side cover if you don't have ABS brakes, there is a lot of room there. You can use a hidden antenna inside your fairing.

If you pull the TP rack, replace the strut covers with some from a SG and no more holes.
