TIKIHD1 - My New Project Bike
Before I bought my first Harley I was kicking around the idea of picking up a retired police bike at auction and fixing it up as project bike. Well today, I did it. I went to local govt. auction and bought me a retired police bike as a project bike.
I have a set goal in mind as to what I want to do with it, but for now... I present to you a 2010 Police Electra Glide with 50K Miles on the odometer. The pictures are doing it justice, and are hiding some imperfections, it is a lot dirtier than it looks and there a few things that need to be resolved before I can even get it on the street.
But here she is....

Though Some police bikes get civialnized before sale I am pretty sure that LVMPD (Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Dept.) does nothing of the sort. To date, the major hist list items are the left floor board is hanging on by one bolt and basically the only lights that work on the bike are the turn signals and the brake lights.... no Headlight, no aux lights and no running lights.
After watching some morning football games I thought I would tackle some general cleaning and start in on the electrical, well thats where the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray.
You see, yesterday after I bought the bike, I got it home and in the garage. I promptly through a leg over the Street Glide and went off to do some cone work. I was still bit excited about the FLHTP and was having problems with the off-set cone weave but I was determined and kept at it until I calmed down and was able to complete the obstacle reliably and consistantly.
On the way home, I noticed that this had a toll on my clutch. As I was getting on the freeway, I gave the bike some gas and the RPM's would shoot up but the MPH didn't. After nursing the bike home, I figured I would just do a quick clutch adjustment after the morning games on Sunday.
So after the games, I went into the shop. Put the Street Glide not he lift and started loosening the screws on the derby cover only to have the last one strip out on me.
Of all the tools in my garage the one thing that I didn't have this morning was a set of Screw/Bolts Extractors... So off the store I go. Went by the local dealership for a replacement screw and a few other items that I already had a list of for the Police Bike and one the way home grabbed some tools to remove my derby cover screw.
What should have been a quick one beer clutch adjustmenet turned into an afternoon ordeal.
As It type this, the screw is now removed, the clutch is adjusted and I have nothing done with the Police Bike.
New Derby Screw next to my old stripped out one that I tried different methods of removing.
