I have a 2011 and the bolts are 1/4 allen

I needed a longer allen socket than I had, so I took an allen wrench, cut the short end off, and inserted that into my 1/4 allen socket.

Don't use a 'ball' end allen

Good luck. They are tight

putting the starter back in is it eaiser to put the splined coupler on the starter shaft first , or on the shaft behind the jack shaft , on the starter first does not seam to want to line up

I don't have an answer for that. I had removed the inner primary to fix an oil leak. This required me to remove the starter bolts and slide the starter back far enough to clear the inner primary. Installation was the reverse - I installed the entire starter as a unit.
