Strip down a E-Glide instead of Street Glide?
http://www.hdforums.com/forum/tourin...eet-glide.html

Issue

Is it better to buy a Street Glide or better to strip down an Electra Glide and add touring parts?

In this thread, posters show pictures of their bikes, explain and give recommendations on an E-Glide with added parts vs a Street Glide, and how they did their set-up

I debated long and hard on it. The twin cooled and all L.E.D. Lights were reason enough alone to justify it. Two things made me buy the Street Glide.

1. Front fender treatment and rear lighting. The SGS has the clean lines I love so much.

2. Color, color, color. I never "fell in love" with any of the 14's color schemes. If I had, I would of bought an Ultra and stripped it more than likely.

Envision your finished bike (it's hard, I know) and figure out the shortest and less costly path to get there. The Ultra is money in the bank accessory wise.

I was originally going to buy a Streetglide then a friend talked me into getting an Ultra and removing parts. Here is how my Ultra ended up.

If ya can stand all the extra crap on an EG/Ultra it is cheaper to remove stuff than add it to a SG. Taking the tour pac and lowers off an Ultra doesn't make it anyway near the clean lines of a SG. Me, I just got a cheap used EG standard and made it my way.

I hate all the dressing on the EG front fender, the passing lights, saddle bag guards, the extra lights on the back... The SG is just much cleaner. I would have to strip so much off of a EG to get to my taste...

But, that's why they make different bikes and tons of accessories... Because there are guys out there that feel the complete opposite way. And that's ok! It's whatever makes you happy.

I purchased a new 2007 FLHT STD. I enjoyed it until I rode a Road Glide.

I second (or third?) the opinion. I ended up getting my SG for the same reasons.

For me it was buy an SG and add what I want to it back in '11. Not down with pinstripes at all plus the lolly pop turn signals, chrome fender trim, bumpers, big ole puffy seat , the passenger floorboards, and the wheels of the EG don't do it for me either.

My last bike was an 06 EGC. I was going to paint it and make it mine anyway so cruise & a radio were the two biggest things I was after.
