Default Throtte position sensor

Hey guys,
I have a question. Went to the dealer to talk about changing out my bars to something with more of a pull back (14 RK) and they are telling me that i wont have issues with the cables since i want to go down and back, but i have to change the throtte position sensor in the bars $130. Is this a real thing that has to be changed? The dealer said if you try and remove the original and reinstall they usually fail and cause the bike to go into limp mode. Not sure if he's just trying to BS me since I'm female. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks

There is a little green connector about 6 inches down the stock TBW sensor line that is very fragile; however, it's been proven hundreds/thousands of times that if you're very careful while installing them you won't have any problem reusing the stock TBW sensor.

Don't yank on or pull apart the green connector is key.

You didn't specify what size bars so it's hard to give you an exact answer about the total install but your dealer has spoken with a forked tongue. I've installed 14 inch bars on my previous '13 Road King and just installed '12.5 bars on my '15 Road King. The '15 required nothing more than wire extensions and a bit of rerouting of the clutch and brake line. Yes you must be careful with the evil green connector. I usually put a hunk of shrink wrap around it after I reconnect to line before pulling the wires thru

I'm having internally wired bars installed on my RKC right now and I chose to buy the upgraded TPS used on CVO bikes to get rid of the "dreaded green connector". Just don't want any problems down the road. The part # for the sensor is 32310-08.

I'll find my post from another thread that has the part numbers for the plug and sockets you need to swap the proper connector on to the CVO harness.

Figured I'd put a little list up here for anyone using the CVO tbw assembly on their SGS. You need the following:

32310-08 - twist grip sensor kit (cvo throttle)
72414-07BK - housing, 6 way (molex socket)
72168-07 x 6 - socket pins for the molex connector

I also got new white connectors for up in my control housing since mine were pretty beat up.

69200305 - 2 pin connector
69200306 - 4 pin connector

Sorry guys, i have the stock 12 1/2 in bars on my 14 right now, looking at going to the wild chubby (or something like that) 10" bar with more of a pull back, it's a 1 1/4 bar so it will have to be internally wired.

I just don't to spend money that i dont have too, already spent a ton lol
but i have to figure out a way to keep my hands from going to sleep

My factory throttle wiring fit in my 1.5" vindiktas just fine. I actually had enough room to feed the throttle wiring disconnected at the green connector and the control wiring disconnected at the white connectors up from the bottom of the bars and then plug the green and black throttle connectors back in through my control wiring slots at the top. I didn't have to pull the 6 pin molex plug apart and feed it through the top. But the 16" prime apes are 1.25" and I just didn't have room to wire them the same way.

Is it 100% necessary? No. However, the dealer is trying to save themselves some possible additional work and possible liability. As others stated the dreaded green connector is very fragile and easily damaged. So they don't want to reuse it and then have to redo the wiring in case they screw it up when installing. Also, they don't want the liability in case it fails while you are riding. Can it be done without the SE throttle? Yes, as others have stated. When I changed to Wild One Chubby bars on '13 RGU, the OEM TBW failed so I ended up buying the SE TBW and redoing my wiring. I was careful, but granted I'm not a professional HD tech either. Personally, I think it's worth the extra $ for the piece of mine that it won't fail down the line, but that's just my 2 cents.

Save that $100 and cut the green plug out and solder your wires back together. Easy peasy.

2010 Limited with some stuff!!
