Default Help with electrical/charging issue

Hey all, been trying to solve an electrical issue on my 06 street glide. Hoping someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in. I have searched and read the very helpful stickys on this.

While riding a few days ago, the engine and battery lights came on. I noticed the volt gauge was between 10-12v. I rode home suspecting the voltage reg, as this had went bad on my fat boy previously, and the symptoms seemed similar. And I had a new stator installed about 2k miles ago.

I charged the battery overnight. Following day, I pulled the stator wire from the vr and checked voltage pin to pin. All was normal with around 45v while around 2500 rpms. Voltage at the battery was 12.9v prior to starting the bike. While running, voltage hovered at 12v. So I deemed the vr bad and bought a new one.

New vr installed and 10 min into the ride, both lights came back on. Went home and pulled the battery and had it load tested and it was good.

So now I have basically a new stator, new vr, good battery and all grounds secure, and my voltage at the battery stays at about 12v while running.

What else am I missing?

Thank you in advance.

Jeff

I forgot to include that after installing the new vr, I started her up and had 14.1v across the battery. Then 10 min into the ride both lights returned and the voltage was between 11-12.

All I can see from here is that you are working on your bike without a factory service manual...

I'm sorry HDBob. You are correct. I definitely need to acquire one.

My best advice from personal experience is to make sure all connections are clean and secure. I work on Mack/Volvo trucks at a dealer and good amount of the voltage issues I see are simple-bad/dirty connections.
Good luck

Did you give a good inspection to the rotor when you replaced the stator? I've seen a badly worn rotor show the same symptoms as a bad stator

Thank you Turkster and 1Plumr for the replies. I'll be cleaning/checking every connection in addition to getting a svc manual today. A local indy with a good rep had replaced the stator. He discovered its potential failure while performing other work, so I do believe he probably inspected the rotor as well.

I picked up a svc manual, however what I really needed for this instance was the electrical diagnostics manual, which my dealer didn't have. Luckily their svc dep't had one and they let me read through and take pics of the pages.

My stator is grounded. Looks like my indy that replaced it last fall will be re-doing their work.
