Advance Auto sells a truck valve extender with a six inch hose and a bracket/clamp at the outer end. One end screws into the valve stem, and then I can finger tighten the clamp on the other end onto the brake rotor. It provides enough resistance when pressing the air hose from the pump into the fitting to cleanly fill the tire. Works quite well. Only PITA is it's one more thing to carry around.

Yep, that's it and is normal for spokes. My wife's 14 RK with spokes is the same. The front is a little easier to get to.

When your bike is up on jack, etc, rotate the wheels and position the stems so that in the future, when you are on the ground and dont want to lift her up, you can roll your bike and bring both stems in position at the same time. I use a HD air gauge (round with braided hose). A bicycle pump works well for airing up as you can push the lever and lock it on the stem. Bike pump might seem silly, but you only need around a half dozen pumps anyways.
