Default 2014 Triple Trees on 2009 Road Glide?

I recently picked up a 2009 FLTRSE3 and I love the bike but the suspension sucks compared to my vrods. The rear shocks are an easy fix but the biggest issue seems to be the flex in the front forks. I understand that this issue was addressed with stiffer forks/triple trees on 2014 touring models. Can anyone tell me if the new 2014 triple trees can be bolted up to a 2009?

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. No, the steering bearings are different, however do not despair! HDF sponsor Motorcycle makes a set of trees that fit and can supply you with 49mm forks with Ohlins fully adjustable cartridges in them. How does that sound?! He can also supply matching shocks.

I did the CCE conversion a year ago and am very very happy. Cost about $1k, including RaceTech springs and Ricor valves tweaked by member fabrik8r. DIY install. Took a while, but doable. This route uses the OEM diameter (39mm, I think) tubes (CCE provides longer versions), which are said to be flexier than the new larger tubes and the better/costlier option from Howard at Motorcycle Metal. Maybe, but for $1k I have a much better handling bike and I didn't have to toss my modified motor, costly bling, and the history I've got with this one. I do have Ohlin 3-3s from Howard. My bike rides nothing like an OEM suspension. No brake dive, precise, stable straight lines. Confidence inspiring.

They're 41mm! I'm slowly treading a similar path to you and hope to have more news before too long.

Thanks for the info guys. I will get in touch with Howard. I will also check out CCE (although I really want to go with the 49mm fork tubes).

I wonder, since we are talking function over looks, are there any inverted fork kits out there for Harley touring bikes? It just seems that if someone is willing to spend that kind of money, why not go all the way?

49mm. They were first used on some of the Dynas I believe.

Howard of MM can supply them, although I'm not sure if his will carry the stock fender and may need new calipers. Want carbon-fibre wheels and light-weight rotors?!
