"Need" ? No. Beneficial? Yes but not without further work (tune).

Did you buy the bike new? Is the current A/C stock? If you install an upgraded intake you will need to also install a tuner otherwise your bike will run lean.

Is it a full v+h exhaust system ie header or is it just slip ons? if its just slip ons, doesnt matter no need for changes, if its a full system, definetly need an intake and programmer because they drastically alter the stock airflow, i have an arlen ness intake with my thunderheader, great quality

Sorry so late. It's just exhuast slip ons.bought the bike used I'm the 2nd owner. Rides smooths and the pipes roar. Just wondered if the slip ons could effect air flow. Sorry but I'm a newbie do i have to ask the pros lol

Well i have an 09 flhtcu with stock 96 i put slipons on and an HD stage 1 better breathing filter and it made a noticeable inc oin perf right off the bat.

The motor pulled with noticeably more power thru mid to upper rpm range rpm before dropping off on power so was well worth the cost and ease of install IMHO for a little but noticeable increase in perf for the total $450 spent and less then 1hr install time.

BTW,the motor ran the same / fine after installing the slipons & SE air filter without any re-map of EFI with no noticeable inc in engine/ex temp too even though HD covers their butt stating you need to remap the EFI with just installing the se stage-1 airfilter assembly with wasnt required for my 09 flhtcu w-stock 96" motor.

Was a piece of cake mod taking less then 1 hr to install the MGS slipnons and SE sat-1 air filter assembly.

And the stock chrome air cleaner cover fits the se stage-1 aircleaner too and the air filter that comes with it is also cleanable with warm water and dish detergent.

But also keep in mind if your not going with somekind slipons to help the motor breather better on ex side the better breating SE stage-1 air filter assembly wont be as much if any help perf wise esp with the very restrictive stock mufflers.

The SE air filter & ex slipons collectively together work as a team help the motor breath a bit better on intake and ex side so doing one mod without the other will likely be hardly noticeable in which case why bother & i'd not rec it.

Also, the airfilter used in the se stage-1 setup isnt't a K&N type filter that requires special cleaner & filter oil added post cleaning so dont use that on the se air filter element in the kit i rec in below link.

HD does sell a replacement K&N air filter for the SE stage-1 air cleaner assembly for those that want it which i think i will go to when the cleanable filter the se stage-1 kit comes with gets a few more cleanings under its belt getting tired.

Heres a link to the se stage-1 filter.
