Give the man a cigar. Thanks mhsmith451, I have the same exhaust set-up and was not enlightened by the higher rasp.

I tried re-packing numerous times and no happiness. I read your article and was skeptical with your results, so I removed the slashed end caps and cranked her over.

I will take my end caps to a local muffler shop and have the gents weld in a 2x3 pipe within the end cap.

Hard to believe the results.

Happy motoring.

Thanks, mdanehart. i'm still playing with mine as well as the packing hasn't been fully successful, but has helped. My next planned mods will either be the endcap mod -need to pull of the existing caps first to see if i like it - then i may also buy the CVO screens from Full Sac to hold the packing to the outside of the can...seems like a good idea..

Interesting on the welded piece under the end cap. The ID of that baffle is 2" I think. I can't help but wonder if I got some pieces from Pep Boys with a 1 7/8 ID the the OD would slip fit snugly in to that stock baffle hence no welding.

Picked up two exhaust adapters at Pep Boys, the 1 7/8 inch one fits perfectly into the muffler baffle. It exits at 2", for the additional length I got another adapter to attach that makes it exit at 2 1/4 and the two together fit just inside the 4 1/4" long black revolver end cap.

Just JB Welded the two adapters together to make one piece. Pep Boys only had one of the bigger ones, got to get them to get me another. I'll take some pics, packing right now to head to the Dragon at 5 a.m. tomorrow morning. Update, Shot a couple pics of the project. Put the two together in a stepped header type arrangement and painted the end high heat black. Got to get another big one, the small end on the left fits totally into the stock baffle end. total length will be just under 4" and the black tips are 4 1/4 so they will not protrude past the fancy tip.

So I took off the endcaps and the sound was immeasurably better...now I wanna have a look as I don't really know anyone with a welder...it looks like the fishtail endcaps may have the inner pipe extensions that I could potentially use with the slash caps.....keep it a little mellow while keeping a fishished look
