Testing it out
Got it all connected inside the fairing. Thought I'd load her on the bike to test it out before tacking all the remaining wires down. Good move. Right before hand, I realized the configuration switches for the amp are on the bottom face. Yep, the side facing down into the fairing. The amp is riveted in.
Deciding to test anyway, I did the mount and test run and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, that bastard Murphy showed up. You know him, the one the Law was named after? Well, it all worked well (except for a cable boo boo that I'll post about later) except the amp is clearly set for 2 speaker operation. I've got four. So the inner speakers aren't working. Any tips on how to easily remove aluminum rivets without messing up the fairing pain would be appreciated!

Pay Attention to Pin Numbers!
The power tree for this setup has B+ (+12V straight from the battery - but fused) into the amp and the aux +12V outlet on the fairing. The radio's power comes from switched +12V - that is, power only when the bike is on or in the ACC position. The radio turns on and off the amp, which is why the amp connects straight to power.
Since the B+ and ground come from the battery, I decided to get ignition-switched power off the accessory connector under the seat, so all 3 signals go to the fairing via a single harness. After thinking about this too long, I just upped and bought the Y-splitter for the accessory port from HD. The splitter plugs into the accessory point on the bike and provides 2 accessory connections. I dismantled one for this job, so I still have one intact should I want to add an accessory later.
In dismantling the accessory port, I looked in my Service Manual for what the pinout was. There's only four pins:
1 - switched +12V (on when the bike is on or in ACC)
2 - tail lights
3 - accessory +12V - the above switchd +12V that is also controlled by the accessory switch on the nacelle
4 - brake lights
I needed pin 1. Looking at the inside of the connector, I saw this:
So pin 1 is the upper left, right? No. I built the cable that way, powered it up and it didn't work. No +12 with the bike on, ACC, nothing. I'm no dummy, so I knew I was clearly on the wrong pin. Using my multi-meter, I figured out which pin had switched +12 on it. It bothered me how I got that wrong. So I examined the 4-pin Deutch connector a little further. Take a look what I found:
This picture is from the back and the connector is not rotated.
Here are the actual pin numbers! I didn't see them earlier. So what I thought was pin 1 was actually pin 4 (brake lights). I should have pressed the brake pedal! The radio would have come on then!
After seeing this, I verified that the pin I had "found" with the multi-meter WAS the real pin 1. I rebuilt that part of the cable and now it works.
Good place to stop for the day...

Well, I drilled out the rivets and checked the amp configuration. It was correct. 4 ch output and RCA inputs. Checked the wiring, too. Damn! Scratching my head big time. Only thing I'm thinking now is that maybe the PRV250 head unit might not have a 12V remote amp output level. If it's logic level or something else, then the amp might not be turning on at all. Not sure what behavior that would be, but I may splice the switched (accessory) 12V into the amp "on" wire tomorrow and see if that helps.
I know many people in the forums have this exact setup (PRV250 and KTP-445U). I'd love to hear from some of you about how you connected the amp?

Tested this AM. Worked all along. Forgot you lose the fade function when using the PRV in RCA output mode. Sounds good now.
Reassembled, routed all wires, caulked to hold and tied everything down. Fits. Will route the power harness on the bike and go for a test ride tomorrow...
If this thread goes much longer, I might make Road Captain!

Finished. Cable mounted. Fairing assembled and mounted. A few vibrations heard on the test ride, but the seem like simple bolt tightening fixes. Which I did. Music is tough to hear well over 50 (I wear a full face) but the sound is decent. Bluetooth works well. I'll try USB and aux later. Oh, one more thing. The fairing works great as a fairing! Good wind deflection, no buffeting. Tired, but pleased. Enjoy:
