it is pretty much plug and play with the speedo/tach combo. If adding a tach then depending on the mount chosen you may have to replace the handlebar cover,

I have this billet one already mounted to a handlebar cover 100 shipped in usa

I have the HD speedo/tach combo mentioned above. A great combo for me. A small drawback is the tach is a little small. Changing the needle and face color combo for both the speedo and tach is pretty cool.

For your '05, you may not get the gear or fuel gauge but someone can correct me.

The above speedo tach combo worked great for me, there was the color dilemma, and I probably dont need to say it, but make sure you get the Kilo / MPH read out you need, it comes in either straight metric, miles or combination of both

If I can ask a question since you apparently haven't fully committed to the modification--Why do you think you want a tach? I've never understood what good they were unless you were racing at the track. On a Road King I'm pretty sure that's not the case. I won't insult you by suggesting that you think you need a tach to know when to shift. So why do you want one? (I feel the same about cars. They were added to "sports cars" in the late 60's to make them look like they were race cars. But they really don't serve a useful purpose.)

Why do I want or like a tach ? It is interesting to see what rpm the motor is turning, what the actual rpm is when you thwack it, when you chug it, when it purrs like a happy beast in the sweet spot.

You may be correct to say they are not needed but they are nice to have.
