Default Painting backs of mirrors

I had the inner fairing on my bike painted gloss black but I forgot to get the mirrors done too. I don't want to just put them back on because I tried it last night and it doesn't look right. had anyone just spray painted them? Trying to get out of going back to the body shop and waiting another week.

I've seen blacked out mirrors at various stores, with a good matte black finish, so why rattle can when you can easily get quality stuff?Anyway, one generally gets what one pays for.

Don't be scared. Scuff them up with a scotch brite pad or sand paper. Clean them really well with acetone. Spray in light coats. Follow the instructions on the can. Follow up with a coat or 2 of clear. Good to go.

My softail. I painted my fork lowers, fender struts, and dash with rattle can.

Just curious, if you paint the back of the mirrors, how are you going to see what is behind you???

That's what I will probably end up doing if it doesn't work out. If I would have just remembered to take the mirrors when I had everything else painted it wouldn't have been much more at all. But at this point it may be about the same price and easier to buy new mirrors but I figured I'd try to paint it myself first.

Easy to go matte with Plasti-Dip... and can be done for 7 bucks, with plenty left for another project.

If you don't like it, you can peel it off and try again.

From experience... mask the glass with good blue tape, and remove the blue tape when it's wet....

But it's simple to remove when it's green, and not hard after it's cured.

Fairing mounted mirrors?

You could rattle can them gloss, I don't think it would be very noticeable. Or plug the holes, and go bar mount, or get the chrome covers for the mirrors.

Yeah they are the fairing mounted ones. I'll try to rattle can them today. The plasti dip that I have seen is all flat black.

Well they came out looking like ****. Didn't look bad at first but then we had a storm blow through during the 2ed coat and I guess the moisture got to it and made them look dull. I don't know. I'm not a painter.

I'll either order these (thanks for the link), or order aftermarket.
