Wheel bearing rim swap? Help
I have a 04 Electra glide with the stock wagon wheels I just picked up a set of spokes from and 08. Thought the axle size didn't change till the new frame in 09 well my mistake seems they changed in 08. So my question is does anyone know what bearings I need to get to use the 08 rims with the 04 axle? Or is there just a kit out there I can order?

I know I can get them from Harley but 90 bucks for 2 bearings is insanity. And the rims will fit in my press so I don't need the tool which is also crazy priced for what it is. I've looked everything up thru Harleys website. I just think I can get better bearings somewhere else for much less. Was just wondering what the actual difference was between the bearings without tearing my bike apart to take actual measurements. I'd like to keep it rideable until I have the new bearings and can just take an afternoon and swap everything.

I didnt know that you could get the 1" bearings that are narrow. I just swapped the front wheel on my 07 to an 18" off a 12. Had to have spacers made so I could use my 1" axle with new 1" bearings installed in the new wheel. Couldnt find the right spacers anywhere. Wish Id known about the narrow bearings.
OP. I used Allballs bearings. $20 for the set on ebay. Like you, didnt want to pay moco prices.

I have a bearing tool off ebay. Was like 100 bucks and I've used it a bunch of times. Paid for itself.

Basically the $80 gets you the right bearings and several spacer tubes. You select the prescribed spacer tube to work with the bearings to work with the application. The puller simplifies pulling and the press part of that tool sets the bearings in the bore at the correct depth.
Looks like '08 went from inch to metric which is your problem. Maybe you can remove your wheel, and pull the old bearings and spacer then install in the new spoke wheel. May take a coule hours longer but you will start with the right bearings and spacer.
