If you rule out the battery and bad connections, then it's the starter solenoid. Take it apart. Clean with very fine sandpaper and put back together.

 

Had that happen with an interstate battery for my Charger (no pun intended). Don't try to charge it, just take it back and get a new one.

 

If the "kill" switch wasn't in the "run" position, he wouldn't even get the "click, click, click" sounds he describes.

That clicking sound is a symptom of a bad connection somewhere, or a very low battery.
There is not enough voltage to turn the starter over, thus the clicking sound.

Any update? I agree it sounds like a power issue. I would put a full charge on the battery and then try again. If it still does it then start at the starter and go back to the battery to see if something is not correct. I have seen quite a few times a ground loose or the hot on starter. Put a wrench on them to see. Recheck the battery connections also.

Check the tire pressure.

 

The green wire, where it hooks to the starter, has been known to corrodeand go bad.. Drag Specialties makes a remote starterbutton that bolts right on the end of the starter (yes, it's chrome) that I will be putting on mine when I get tires in a month or so..

 

Did you check the starter relay? The last time mine went click the starter relay was bad
