Being that the accident happened in the afternoon - not sure how much lights had to do with the driver not seeing the biker

It is even truer at night. A lone headlight might blend in with a car behind it, 3 lights is more distinctive.

A car lane changed on him which sounds like he was probably beside him or something. The rider was either hit or bailed, bike continued for .3 of a mile (slid?) and hit the guard rail. The car hit the Semi.
Don't think it had much to do with the design of a Streetglide or LED headlights. That bike doesn't look to have LEDs anyway.

The picture of that bike on the guardrail looks really bad, but the rider wasn't on the bike at the time it hit.
That right there probably saved him. That guardrail would have torn him to shreds.

The rider was more than lucky but will have nightmares for many years to come.
For the info here is the type of crash protection we have in the EU:

Wife and I are on the Road Glide Ultra this afternoon some blond bimbo decides she wants our lane, she's on the phone and not paying attention to her driving or where she was in the lanes. Pretty hard to not see the big blue boat next to her. People are driving with so much distraction in their vehicles and the states won't make this a primary reason to be stopped and ticketed. I'm glad the rider managed to survive this mishap. We just have to be aware of our surroundings.
