Main bearings are not going to be damaged if the oil pressure it high enough to keep the oil light out (some bikes don`t even have an oil pressure gauge). They are roller bearings, not plain bearings.

The oil filter bypass has nothing to do with low oil pressure.

my '99 at idle on a hot day (Arizona in August hot) would read 0 psi. Funny thing, it lasted 70,000 miles before I sold it. Always thought the Oil Pressure gauge was the dumbest thing HD ever added to the touring bikes... When people saw how low the pressure got at idle the panic started. I was asked "how do I fix my low oil pressure?" I offered a roll of black tape and said "put this over your gauge"

Yup, I agree with all, especially the more experienced owners. I did goof...the book says 5 psi, I wrote 8 psi. Senior moment. In the end, we all use our technical experiences and pass them on. Everybody be safe out there!!
