Found a 2004 Road King with 3,000 miles on it BUT.....
He put synthetic in it at 2,000 miles and hasn't changed the oil since 2005. Bike started right up and runs strong but he's asking 10K. Needs a good cleaning but the oil not being changed in so long has me worried and the price seems a little high. Advice appreciated???

These engines are not like car engines.
Probably did more harm starting it with the old oil in it than it sitting for 10 years
At 10k its over priced,
it might be worth 6 to 8, but you will need to be prepared for a bunch of work, as most of the seals will have some drying out or other issues
At a decent lower price, i would take the chance

I just purchases a '06 Softail Night Train with just under 3k in miles. Same situation, been sitting for awhile, otherwise like new. Paid just a hair over $5000, which is well below book, but figured I bought it rite if anything pops up. $10K is just too much, plus plan on a complete service, battery, new tires, brake bleed, and misc.. Around $6000 +/- a bit would be the magic number on that bike. Oil wouldn't bother me as much, but how it was started after such a long sit would. I would have made sure those cylinders were lubed before starting it, and replacing the gas, that stuff was probably varnish by now.

I am not as worried about the oil as much as I am about other things.
If the bike was stored and not started, the oil isn't going to be an issue.
,
If it was started once in a while and allowed to get hot, not a problem.
starting it for a minute and shutting it off... ehhh not a fan, but not fatal.
Know anyone with a bore scope that can peek in the jugs for rust and such?
I am more concerned with the "wear items", starting with dry rotted tires, dried out seals,
every brake line needs to be replaced, the master cylinders and calipers need to be cleaned and inspected
Brake fluid sucks water in like a sponge and it WILL cause your calipers to stick, and I have a buddy with one leg who has one leg because he bought a bike that sat and rode it without going through the brakes.
what does the tank look like? Any condensation from water vapor in a tank that was not 100% full will settle to the bottom and it will cause a problem.
If you get it for the right money fine, but you may be replacing or working on every part of it, from the throttle and clutch cables on down to the tires.
price it as if you are going to have to put 3 grand into it minimum. If you don't have to spend the $, you have it in reserve and you are ahead of the game.
to me it is a 6500 dollar bike, 7 grand tops
