Default Change Street Glide fender to CVO

A lot has been posted about this topic & I wanted to contribute what I've learned now that I completed it. I converted my stock 2011 rear-end to a CVO one.

Only stock HD CVO parts were used + a Kuryakyn license plate mount. You can order the CVO parts at your dealership or like me, I ordered the parts at Ronnie's Harley Davidson which has a OEM parts finder, it's a F'n awesome resource. http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche..../showmodel.asp
You must look at the Rear Fender and License Plate drawings.

What I wanted was something mild, and I hesitated ordering crazy long extended fender or a fender overlay -- And i didnt have 3k-4k for that fender with the flush-hidden tail lights. The best time to do something like is this when you get extended bags or need something painted. This is about $680 parts and my paint guy is expensive. I'm not going to put a $ amount here since I had the bags prepped and painted, and my lid and latch was scraped, so I can't give you a quote just on having just the fender smoothed and painted.

Parts list - $568.64
6 3152 SCREW - SCREW $8.94
1 10006 CABLE STRAP - CABLE STRAP $0.49
4 56073-83 RETAINER - RETAINER $5.96
1 69383-09 T-SIGNAL ASY,LH,RED,W/SMK'D LE - T-SIGNAL ASY,LH,RED,W/SMK'D LE $139.99
1 69407-09 T-SIGNAL ASY,RH,RED,W/SMK'D LE - T-SIGNAL ASY,RH,RED,W/SMK'D LE $129.49
1 70338-09 WIRE HARNESS, RR LITING, DOM - WIRE HARNESS, RR LITING, DOM $68.99
7 7499 NUT, FLANGE, CRUISE CONTROL - NUT, FLANGE, CRUISE CONTROL $6.93
3 11891 SPACER,OIL COOLER - SPACER,OIL COOLER $4.47
1 60465-09 FASCIA, RR FNDR - FASCIA, RR FNDR $140.49
2 60919-09 STIFFENING PLATE,RR FASCIA - STIFFENING PLATE,RR FASCIA $30.98
4 940 SCREW, HEX SOCKET BUTTON TORX - SCREW, HEX SOCKET BUTTON TORX $3.96
1 59840-09 STUD PLATE - STUD PLATE $16.49
1 60916-09 COVER,CONN'CTR/LIC'SE PLT LITE - COVER,CONN'CTR/LIC'SE PLT LITE $6.49
1 74152-98 SOCKET LOCK, 2-WAY - SOCKET LOCK, 2-WAY $0.49
1 2952A SCREW, SEMS TRUSS HEAD - SCREW, SEMS TRUSS HEAD $1.99
1 59768-97 FENDER/SEAT NUT KIT - FENDER/SEAT NUT KIT $2.49

This is cheaper than the $999 dollar CVO fender on Harley's site, Also personally I do not want the stock CVO license plate. You are going to have body work done to use my approach. When you remove your stock bullet brake light bar you'll see two recesses in the fender with bolt holes, I had these filled at a body shop.

You'll need these two parts which together total about $110
Kuryakyn 3144 Chrome Curved Lighted LED License Plate Frame
Kuryakyn 3146 License Mount Back Plate

Now you've still spent less than $999

Instructions:
1. Disassemble your bike (seat, bags, fender) & then remove the wiring harness that went from near the fuse panel to your tri light at the bottom of your fender
2. Mockup -- Reassemble using your CVO fender parts
3. Remove the PIN from the head of the original, stock Street Glide rear light wiring harness
4. Remove the PIN from the head of the brand new CVO Street Glide wiring harness
5. Put the PIN connector in Step 3 onto the new CVO wiring harness. Line up the wires (by color) into the PIN connector then reassemble the PIN
6. Test out your new wiring harness connect to the bike and connect the other ends to the two taillights and the Kuryakyn plate
7. If it worked then you're now ready to take your fender to the body shop -- Disassemble a find a body shop.

Red circles have to get these filled

Red X - Not putting the CVO plate on

This looks cooler than the stock CVO plate mount

Red Circles -- show the holes you have to have filled (black fender is from a Road Glide)
Red X -- We are not putting on a stock CVO license plate holder

Everyone is out riding, so it is slow.

I am stuck at work, so I'll say "Nice Job".

Relax, like Rolla said. Everyone is out riding. Pretty impatiant to get approval from the forum though. You have 22 posts in over a year, you dont post much either.

Now that i said that, it looks nice. Good Job.

I have always liked the look of the CVO rear fender but couldn't bring myself to drop 1k on a fender. Now that I know their are cheaper alternatives, it might just be back in the works.

Whatever floats your boat, that is the nice thing about non-cvo bikes. One can modify them to their hearts desire to get that unique, to me look.
