Default 2006 FLHX Cam Chain Tensioners

At what point should I be concerned about checking these. Thinking about new cams anyway. Don't want to explode motor due to one or both tensioners letting loose. No noise yet from the cam cover area, just want to be ahead of any potential problems. Thanks...

Probably about 20K. I'd just go ahead and do it with the cams you know you will get soon anyway.

You did not mention miles but if you are going to get new cams its a no brainer to replace them (tensioners). I went 74K before ever replacing my tensioners and still in remarkably good shape. Your results may vary.

I converted mine to hydraulic at about 17,000 miles because I was trying to justify upgrading cams. They didn't show any unusual wear and didn't really need to be changed at that time. But, I got new cams out of it, and have no regrets.

I changed my '06 SG to gear drive at 18K. The tensioners needed changing badly as they were nearly metal to metal.
If you're going to keep the bike for some time I highly recommend investing in a gear drive. It's a far better way to go (over the hydraulic system) and you'll never think about tensioners of any kind again. Cost is about the same.

64000 miles on my '06 FLHX. Worn, but serviceable.

As long as crank run out is well within spec...

Back in '06 quality control on H-D cranks was much better than in later years so run-out shouldn't be as critical. Still it's always prudent to check it out anyway.
I didn't mention it because it's been covered almost as many times as oil preference.
And any shop doing gear drives checks run-out before buying the parts just to avoid liability.
Thanks for mentioning it just the same, though.
