Default Flag Pole Mount

I am looking into mounting a full size flag on my bike and am looking into ideas. At first I was thinking of removing the backrest pad and making a custom flag pole pad.

There are boat rod holders that are meant to clamp onto a round bar and am thinking of buying one of those to mount onto my backrest frame. Attached is a picture of what I am talking about.

Has anyone tried this? What kind of custom flag holder do you have?
I realize some companies sell good holders for $100-200 but I am not looking to spend that much. Thanks

...... i'm thinkin' you'll need a much heftier mount to hold a full size flag in a 30-40 mph wind

Heftier in what way; in terms of mounting?... In my opinion if that is bolted tight onto the backrest, and the flag pole runs through it and is bolted some way in place; then there shouldn't be any issues.

I have done escorts at 75 mph with this rig. Note that the pole is PVC with an aluminum tube and oak dowel inside.

Close up of the mount, before finishing the ends. You could substitute "U" bolts for the CNC mounts.

Shooter.. I have seen your posts in the PGR section which is where I got the idea. Are your cross members aluminum? Do you think the rod holder will work? I'm looking to put something together so that I can pull the flag out easily.

The cross members are aluminum strap doubled up for extra rigidity. Most hardware stores stock it. http://www.lowes.com/pd_215885-37672...1&Ntt=aluminum

I know someone who tried that very rod holder. If you're only going to use it at city traffic speed, it might work. But it's defiantly not strong enough for anything over 35-40 mph, as the guy I know found out. It's not a pretty sight watching bikes trying to dodge a flag and pole, as it's bouncing down the highway.

If I was you, I would use "U" bolts.

My mount is "dedicated" to the flag. I remove the backrest and flag as an assembly. Easy on, easy off.

For highway use, there's no such thing as over engineered.

I made my own using trolling rod holders. It's in the PGR section.

Not really, about 45 MPH. When on the highway, I have slip covers for them. Don't see any reason to run them at 65 MPH.
