Yes you need one.Get the power commander V from fuel moto...Do a search, there are plenty of treads on the subject. It will help cool off the motor and with fuel management and also performance.

i would disagree, slip on pipes dont change your flow enough to warrant a tuner. Add a heavy breather and increase air flow, then yes you will need a tuner.

If I've posted it once, I know I've posted it 43 times...

The FIRST thing a man should do when considering making changes is GET A TUNER. It will help a stock bike, and when you change pipes and or air cleaner, you're ready for it.

Can you run without a tuner? Yes.

Will you blow your engine up running without a tuner? Probably not.

Can you expect to get 50,000 miles out of your engine without a tuner? Most likely.

Will it run correctly without a tuner? No.

Dealers and their parts and service departments are a business, in business to sell motorcycles, and motorcycle parts and accessories. They tell you that you can get away without a tuner, because a LOT of guys won't come off the jack for a tuner, and they're afraid they'll lose sales if they tell you to get a tuner.

Changing the air flow without changing the VE tables is not beneficial. These bikes run lean from the factory, adding a more free flowing exhaust makes them run more lean.

Do what you want, I won't criticize, just trying to offer things to think about.

...but there is a reason I won't buy a used bike as my primary ride...

I think even a stock bike would benefit from a tuner that is setup properly

HD is very lean from the factory because of EPA regs. That being said, even a bone stock bike can benefit from a tuner of some sort. If you are just going to run pipes there are some cheap things you can do to just richen the mixture up a little. If there is a possibility that there will be further mods in the future then go with a good tuner. Power Commander V, Power Commander Power Vision would be good choices. Fuel Moto has both of these with pre loaded tunes for any mod you might do, and the tune will be very close without having to do a high dollar DynoTune.

i got a HD screaming eagle tuner and had it put on my 2013 limited when i changed the breather header and tail pipes. according to my butt dyno, it performed a bit better than stock but i saw no real difference in observable change like mileage. i like the sound of my RC's so to me it was worth the whole set up. still gets hot but thats the nature of the beast.
