Default Chrome Rear Saddlebag Guard

This has never dawn on me, but my friend has a SG and was making a left turn when he was cut off. He stopped in time in the middle of the left turn, but lost his balance and had to lay the bike down on its left side. His damages were the engine guard, left rider floorboard rear bracket, left muffler and left saddlebag. Just some minor scratches. I have the same bike and it dawn on me if there was a Rear Saddlebag Guard, like Harley part # 49282-09b Chrome Rear Saddlebag Guard-49282-09b.jpg, would it have minimize some these damages; the muffler and saddlebag. I am speaking of course just laying the bike down.

...... yep
.... the protection w/both guards is pretty good if your bike just lays over w/o forward motion
........ that's why i put mine on

Yup, they are handy. I dropped my bike in the warehouse here at work and the engine guard and bag guard did their job. Not a scratch or crunch. A couple of guys to help me lift it up and i was good to go. Lesson learned about guards AND making sure the jiffy stand is all the way down!!

Thanks everyone for your comments. I was not sure if they extended out enough so the bike would rest on the rear saddlebag guards and not on the saddlebag itself and/or muffler. They will be the next item on my list.

They are the best thing out there for when a bikes gets bumped so I installed a set myself.
But I went the piece part route to put on a Beefy 1-1/4" Saddlebag Guard (Moco uses 7/8") from one of our vendors HCC.
It looks great with that massive amount of metal.

Put either one on for peace of mind.

they come standard on all touring bikes but the stripped and slammed street glides do without for the sake of cool looks.

That is the reason I had the guards installed when I got the bike. Also has the added bonus of preventing the bags from mistakenly falling off.
