Default shock air pressure

Hi just traded in my fatboy for a 2013 Road Glide custom. I put a la choppers lowering kit in it and I am going to drop the front a inch when I get some extra cash. My question is how much air should i be running in the rear shocks? I am 145 pounds and ride solo 90% of the time. Thanks

Not very much. Try 10 pounds and see how you like it, adjust accordingly. Add more if you have a passenger, but do NOT use a high pressure air hose. You'll have to buy the air shock pump, it's about $60 or so IIRC.

Yes, I have used one for 25 years. However I also have a low pressure tyre gauge which helps. What you will find is that adding air with a cycle pump will result in loosing air when you attach the hose and again when you detach it, also when you use a gauge. You can avoid all that by getting yourself a shocks gauge, available on Ebay.

Your bike should have come with an owners manual. If you don't have one you should be able to download one on the H-D website, go to the Owners tab.

X2 on the 10 PSI.
I met a guy last week who was complaining about the hard ride. He told me the dealer set it up for him. I grabbed my pump and it was set at 35 PSI. Dropped him just under 10 PSI and he is thrilled.

It really depends on the load you carry.

Play with the pressures with the different loads you carry,
One up emptyish bags
One up loaded
Two up Loaded etc etc...............

You will find the pressure that works with each load. Now try to remember the pressure and then adjust to suit the condition.

When I first started riding the twin cam tour bikes I was constantly adjusting to find the perfect ride, once I found it the air pump is rarely used.

Have fun playing with your new scoot !!!

Just play with it and see what you like. I never messed with my shocks until recently. The majority of my riding is 195 lbs 1 up. I carry this and that in the bags, maybe 10 lbs worth. I run 30 psi. I tried 30, then tried it lower, and prefer it stiffer at 30. The 2013 service manual calls for 5-10 psi for a solo rider up to 150 lbs. But it's all preference.
