Default Just completed my 20000 mile service

I just completed my 20,000 mile service. Observations: no matter how hard I try or which method I use I always spill oil out of the oil filter down onto the motor mounts ( yes I have the HD funnel and yes I tried the freezer bag method arrrrrg!!!!!) , and why does the primary and tranny require an odd number of ounces why can't it be just 1 quart each. It would be a lot less trouble that way .

Tranny should be a quart.

Primary... yeah, 38oz.

It took a little more than a quart in my tranny to bring it up above the add mark on the stick

I take a sheet of aluminum foil and form it to fit in the space under the oil filter to catch any oil that comes out of the filter. The foil is easy to work with. I use a piece long enough to reach from the oil filter out past the primary cover. I also spin the oil filter into a bag from a loaf of bread when I take the filter off. With the bread bag and the foil, I've been successful catching all of the oil.

Well I guess I will try the aluminum foil bread bag method next time. Lol

So far, I've been successful in not spilling any oil when changing the filter. I stuff rags below it just in case, then aluminum foil shaped like a trough out past the primary. Knock a couple of holes in the filter before removing and let it drain before spinning it off. Fill the new filter and let it soak up as much oil as possible and not run out when you turn it on its side, then spin it on.

i stuff a old rag between the filter and motor mounts. the rag absorbs the oil that spills. usually not a drop on motor mounts or floor.
