Tingling in Hands after Switching to Taller Handlebars
I went for stock FLHTCU bars to LA Choppers FL 12” bars. These are very similar in dimensions to the Wild1 577 bars. The bars are just about shoulder height for my 5’10” frame and made an improved difference in my lower back. However, I’m getting a tingling sensation in both hands when I stop. This even occurs after a relatively short 50 mile ride. The bars are rolled back enough to keep me from leaning forward, but my arms are pretty much straight out with little or no bend at the elbows. I still have to lean forward when making turns. My grips are Avon and about the same dimensions as stock grips.
Has anyone else experienced this hand tingling after switching to taller bars? If so, what can I do to remedy the problem? I’m wondering if they are still too far forward and need to be rolled back some more. As I mentioned, my arms are pretty much straight and stretched out when riding.
Thanks for your input.

the tingling might be telling you that they are too high or pull you too far forward. i get it occasionally but i have stock bars and i think i'm developing carpel tunnel syndrome. i can normally remove one hand, shake it a bit and that will take care of it for quite a while. doesn't happen all the time so i'm not sure what my problem is. i set the cruise control and give my right hand a break.

A little bend in the elbow may provide some relief, you're compressing a nerve somewhere.

Thanks for these suggestions. The odd thing is that I don't feel this when riding. It's only when I stop that I notice it. I may try to roll them back a little more. I do feel as though I am reaching up a little when I grab them, so they may be too tall for me. Maybe the wrist angle is also not right for me, but I really don't notice it as being uncomfortable while riding.
If I can't get this resolved, I may have to swap them out for some 10" bars.

It's possible your heart can't pump blood as easily to your now higher fingertips. The same thing happened to me. As soon as I dropped the clutch hand down for 2 minutes, the numbness (if that's what you're feeling) went away. I went back to stock bars.

You make a very good point about my heart not being able to pump enough blood to my now elevated arms and hands. At 54 years old, it wouldn't be the first time I've had a problem with blood flow to a body part.

If so, you probably need bars with a little more pullback to allow your elbow to bend. My family doctor told me the same thing. Apparently there is some nerve that runs through your elbow that doesn't like to be stretched/shock or something. I forget. Worked for me.
