Long term reviews of the Baker comp? Most guys in this forum put around 500 miles a year on their bikes. Gunna have to wait a few years.
that's funny. I rode down town on the 4th to see what the rally was like. Seemed like a lot of riders there fit that description. Wobbly, feet dragging, non-backing, wide turning, bike stalling peckerwoods .
The stock unit seemed to spin for a half revolution at one rpm then slow as its cams went to full lock.
Well, if this is the case you won't need a 500A battery to spin the starter motor. It's like collecting momentum before you go up a ramp with a wheelbarrow full of concrete.

That WAS with a 500 cca Yuasa battery...which makes me wonder if some stock HD batteries are seeing extra duty with the OEM comp and failing prematurely.

No not long term, just initial observations pertaining to what their issues were to begin with. It has not been out long term.
Again that was not the question.

Have you tried other forums? I know many outside this forum have been posting on the comp.

Well, like it or not, it IS the question.
The issue that causes people to replace their comp is - reliability.
So we cant know how reliable a new part/design is until some significant amount of time (and miles) has elapsed - 2-3 years at least.

You would have to measure the voltage across the battery terminals to detect "extra-duty".
My OEM battery should provide 380 Amps under 7-10 Volts but this is practically impossible to measure accurately because the leads become resistive as they warm-up and thus protect both starter and plates inside the battery. I already have the (new) 1.6 KW starter motor according to my parts manual and it stalls when the engine is hot.

hog: I was there on Friday and Saturday also, and your description is about spot on. Heard some kick azz music though....believe it or not.
Sorry gentlemen....back to the big comp question.....carry on!
