Default Compensator Replacement - Parts List (?)

I have the hot start problem on my 2007 Road Glide, which is getting close to an every start problem. It seems pretty well established that it's from the compensator, so I need to get that replaced.

Given that I'm not too mechanically inclined and it seems this is an issue that takes better-than-novice skill, I'm taking it to a buddy of mine who knows bikes very well. Issue is he is a three-hour ride away and at least two-hours from a stealership. So before I head to his place I want to make sure I have everything I'll need. Would someone in the know let me know if I'm missing anything?

And I'm assuming I'll need fluids... can anyone tell me how much and of what kind?

Do most people who replace the compensator also replace the sprag clutch at the same time? And if so, does anyone know what the part number is?

Thanks!

Baker compensator, Harley Rotor 30041-08A, Baker Attitude Chain adjuster, 2 quarts Spectro Heavy Duty Primary Chaincase Lube, Primary Gasket. Forget the Harley Compensator it won't last.

Good list.
You'll need 48 Ounces of Formula+ primary oil (just get two quarts).
Recommend good ole JB Weld instead of the adhesive and caulk gun.
Don't worry about the autotensioner. If you're not presently having problems with it, it should be fine. If you want to pick it up anyway its pn: 39929-06A $94.99.

I tend to agree with Big...replace it with Baker's new kit. And since you're in there, might as well replace the chain adjuster too.

The R&R is not a difficult task...couple of sockets, breaker bar, and snap-ring pliers and torque wrench.

Here's Bakers instructions for the kit...

What do you mean by hot starts?
Like out on a run, stopping in for gas, killing the motor filling up and then starting it again and then getting a metal on metal sound or?

The Baker kit doesn't appear to be out yet, and I don't think my bike will make it too much longer as it's going (getting to the point where the sound happens on first morning start instead of just when warm) so I think I'm going to have to go with the SE out of necessity.

What kind of JB Weld is equivalent to the Harley sticky stuff?

And any thoughts on if I should do the sprag clutch too while in there?

Yes most definitely need to change the starter clutch as well. If you changed it out first, it would hold you till you could get the Baker Comp in.

2010 Limited with some stuff

Is there a date for the Baker kit? I couldn't find it.

How difficult is it to replace the starter clutch on its own? I just don't want to double up on a lot of take on/take off if it's a PITA (I'm not terribly mechanically inclined, gaskets are kind of expensive, and my buddy who can help me out is a 3-hour ride away. I'm in a rough spot!)

I get that noise frequently too.
Also have a starter clutch to put in too.

The Baker unit though is in production and is being sold as well.
I have an appt. w/them for this coming Sunday at BH HD.
They should be out here as of yesterday.
Should cost right around $900, which includes the new-er style rotor, Baker Attitude Adjuster as well as the labor and taxes.
Quite pricey to say the least.
