Default modified placement of fairing mirrors

In looking around the various forums trying to find a template to mount the mirrors I bought (used) that the seller forgot to send the template to locate the holes ( is the template really 8 inches long btw?) I ran across a few mentions that the mirror works better when mounted a little higher and a little more outboard.

Now on my 03,I mounted the old mount design mirrors in the factory suggested spot and they work just fine, to the point I hate the OEM mirrors on my 13, hence the search for reasonably priced fairing mounted ones (I love a bargain!)

Soooooo, has anyone mounted their street glide type mirrors up,out, or up and out?

How much up and or out did you go and do you think they work better in the alternate position?

Thanks in advance for the comments!
