Is the Mobil 1 V twin oil better than the Harley synthetic oil?

If you change either of those 20-50 full syn motorcycle oils @ 5k miles along with a new 5 micron oil filter like HD uses you should have no issues with either of them.

With that said there was an extensive oil test done a few yrs ago on 18 diff bike oiks in 20-50 grade and amsoil syn 20-50 bike oil came in 1st place,mobil-1 v-twin 20-50 came in 2nd and hd's syn3 20-50 bike oil came in 4th of the 18 bike oils tested in 20-50 grade.

So with nothing else to go by other then the scientific testing that was done on the 18 bike oils vs peoples opinion i'd go with the oil testing which said M1's v-twin 20-50 syn bike oil beat HD's syn3 20-50 syn bike oil per the oil test though not by a heck of lot.

But HD's syn3 coming in 4th of 18 oils tested in same 20-50 grade is good, but if i had to run either of those 2 oils i'd go with M1's 20-50 syn v-twin thats cheaper & showed bit better results in scientific testing vs HD's more expensive syn3 syn 20-50 bike oil that didnt do quite as well in the oil testing.

But again,if you follow proper oil & filter change maint schd along with proper air filter maint too any syn 20-50 motorcycle oil mfg'd today should perf plenty good enough to properly protect your bikes motor under most cond it would see.

BTW,i had hd syn3 in my 09 96' motor with low miles and oil pressure really dropped off on hot summer days,same happened with m1's syn 20-50 though not quite a much as the syn3.

And that was when those 2 oils were just changed and fresh too!

Then i went to spectro's std dino 20-50 and oil pressure didnt drop near as much like hd's syn3 & m1's v-twin syn 20-50 oil did when the motor was hotter on 90 deg days.

Well just the other day it was time again to change the spectro std dino 20-50 oil and i decided to try spectro's full syn 20-50 HVY DTY Platinum oil this time around and guess what?

Spectro's full syn platinum 20-50 bike oil did in fact hold oil pressure just as good/ high as sprectro's std dino did when the motors hot on a 90 deg day where hd's syn3 & m1's v-twin 20-50 syn bike oils resulted in lower oil pressure in same cond in same bike & motor on a hot day showing it's viscosity is thinning out more on those 2 syn oils when they are under more stress on a hot day .

I will be curious to see if spectros full syn platinum 20-50 bike oil thats specifically formulated for lrg HD v-twin motors still holds good oil pressure on a hot 90 deg day after i get some miles on it (3k+ miles ) like spectro's std dino did holding good oil pressure on a hot day right up till it was time to change it which i hope is the case for spectro's full syn bike oil .

If spectros full syn bike oil holds up well with some miles on it keeping oil pressure where it belongs like spectro's std dino did esp on a hot day i will stay with spectro's full syn oil.

But if after i get some miles on spectro's full syn hvy dty platinum 20-50 oil the oil pressure drops more esp on a 90 deg day then it did with spectro's std dino 20-50 bike oil then i will go with spectro's std dino oil for now.

If spectro's full syn bike oil doesnt fair as well as i'd like to see oil pressure wise after i get some miles on it maybe i would try spectros semi blend 20-50 bike oil specifically formulated for lrg HD v-twins at that point to see how that does before committng to std dino for the long haul.

BTW,i contacted spectro's rep and asked a few qurestions on their bike oil for HD's lrg v-twins and they said their std dino/semi blend /full syn bike oils can all a full 5k miles in the hd motor before changing the oil & filter.

I also asked about anti wear agent lvl and he said they all have an anti wear agent / ZDDP lvl of approx 1600ppm Zinc & approx 1400ppm Phos which is a healthy anti wear agent lvl that should be great for protecting HD's air cooled motors from scuffing/scratching/gailing esp when exposed to excessive heat on a hot day.

That higher zddp lvl is also good for an added lvl of protection for valvetrain (hyd roller lifters and cams along with rockers,springs,pushrods & cam bearings too) in the Hd motors .
