Default New To Me Bike

Got a new bike today. Have been doing a lot more interstate riding and will be for the foreseeable future. Got tired of getting beat on by the wind around trucks. I will always remember and love my Road King. Any veterans want to give me a little advice as to what to expect between the King and my new Ultra?

Nice looking bike. What years are the 2 bikes?

I went from a 07 dyna with windshield to my 09 ultra. A world of difference in wind protection and comfort.

One thing I would do is replace those tacky screen door hinges they put on the TP with the nice chrome ones that match the latches. Nice bike and wondering what you have in mind for upgrades. More details about the bike would be nice as well. Not trying to be a negative Nancy but you could have saved a bunch of money by upgrading your Road King with fairing, TP and lots more but again you have not told us much.

I traded my '09 for another '09. I like the stuff on the '09 and hate the cats on everything above that. I actually test rode an '11 with 96" and the pipe got so hot next to my foot I thought I burned my leg. I thought about just doing the upgrades, but the look of a RK with a fairing has always bugged me. It is also a very clean bike. Doesn't look like it has ever seen water and had 4k fewer miles than my RK and has Security/ABS option. Plus it had a Road Zeppelin seat. Not sure if I should have been impressed with the seat, but I was.

I'm really curious as to what I'm going to experience as a difference between the bikes.

Don't know how you save money by adding a bunch of stuff to a road king that the Ultra comes with. 1,500 fairing, 800 lower fairing, 800 tour pac and you still don't have a CB, intercom and other stuff that the Ultra comes with.

OP, I went from a Roadking to an Ultra several years ago and while I loved my King 85,000 miles, I have never looked back. There is just too much to like about Ultra if you use your bike for touring.

Looks to me like you only need a set of pipes if you want a little more sound. And you do know that black bikes are faster

From one "Iceman" to another...congrats & ride-on!

Other than the batwing a some weight, should ride similar to your previous bike. I say find a vacant parking lot and run a few MSF/familiarization drills. That's what I do every spring...helps dust-off the cobwebs.

Fortunately I had several parts still sitting around that I took off my King. Just swapped them out before I went to the dealership and put them back on after the bike cooled down from the ride home. Only thing I'm going to have to purchase from my Fuel Moto stage 1 is the AC. Couldn't find my stock one. Have to be in Orlando all next week so hoping to log a few miles today before she has to sit for a week.

After a long day in the saddle, you are gonna really like that Road Zep. Your passenger will as well.

But there's the negative. If the '09 Road Zep seat is like my '06, it's a little taller, especially for the passenger. Add that to the additional weight of the tour pack, and you are going to be a lot more top heavy in the back. So, do a little practice with your lady on to get used to it.

The "lady" I'm most concerned about right now is my daughter. She is the one who really inspired me to change. She's gotten to the point she wants to go everywhere with me on the bike. I feel a little more comfortable with the pack than I did with my sissy bar. My wife will ride when I ask her to, but mostly just because she knows I enjoy her being with me. It's not really her thing. My daughter on the other hand could possibly be asking for a motorcycle instead of a car when the time comes.
