Yes, because the early FI bikes were geared lower, 3.37 vs 3.15 for carbed bikes. The best mod for the 3.37 bikes is to find a take off 07 66 tooth rear pulley & 1" belt from the 07, then add a 33 tooth front pulley & you have a final drive ratio of 3.08. That would drop the RPMs by 250-300 at cruise, the 1" belt also allows you to run a larger rear tire. I had that set-up on my 2000 & really liked it. You could go to a 34 front & go down to 2.99, but I'm not sure about what belt you'd have to run.

Went up from 32T to 34T on my '91 Electra Glide and she really settled down at speed. Really helped on the fuel mileage too. Made 1st gear a little tall but rarely there anyways. Dropped the R's a good 300 rpm in 5th gear. Poor man's Baker Six Speed for sure. :-)

I presume, starting out from a light I could go just a little bit further before shifting up.
The gear ratio on my 03 egc is stock and works good, on my 02 wg, after I went to 95", cams, heads, bla bla, I ended up going up 2 teeth on the front sprocket because I had so much more torque and can easily pull that gear. Cruising at freeway speeds is a dream. Going up 1 tooth may work on a bagger, but if you do It, get the steel sprocket, not the aluminum one. Mine was worn out within 10k and I had to replace it-- with the steel one. If it is the 6 speed, I wouldn't do it unless my engine was built and could pull the taller gear--- baggers are pretty heavy

Funny, all this talk of raising gearing - I installed a 21T comp to my Dyna TC88 to wake the darned thing up! My ole Evo is fine running at around 90mph on the autobahns. Of course you chaps are all wearing ear plugs, aren't you, to protect your hearing? Best tuning aid known to mankind - for bikers at least! Turns a long cruise into a stroll in the park.

My 88 FXR has a 61T rear pulley ( requiring a softail belt swap)= 15% overdrive.
this is a built motor.

My 1995 FLHTC had the 70T and I would swap to a 65T when touring ( same belt) for a slight overdrive.
the 65T made sense when you consider I am covering 500 miles a day...490 of them in 5th gear

Default 33 Tooth pulley on 99 RKC EFI

Hi all,

I had a 33 steel pulley installed when I had a 07 Swingarm installed on my 99 EFI RKC. My bike had the 3.37 gearing and living in Montana I wanted to drop a couple hundred RPM on the hwy. Bike was a 88" at the time now 95. By BigBoyz calculations it dropped my gearing to 3.23. My speedo now read ever so slightly slow and odometer is 4 miles short per 100 miles. Great mod for me, especially the swing arm with spherical bearings . I have about 60k on this mod..........goldie

Mike, interesting as that was stock gearing on my International spec '90 FLHS when I bought it new. I now have a US spec 70T.

I'm looking at a Baker DD6......

Yeah, I couldn't imagine going the other way. I think people are WAY over concerned with how high they spin these engines, without considering that people have cruised at 80-90 mph on v-twins for decades.

Agree entirely. My TC88 was happy at 90+, running at 20mph/1,000rpm. I blame it all on the introduction of 6-speed trans, to reduce emissions, then owners want even less rpm FFS!
