Default Help!

Hey folks, need some help/insight please!

My 2009 streetglide is acting up, twice now I get on the bike turn on the ignition and the starter is cranking without me touching anything.

Bike starts and runs no problem but the starter stays engaged.

Checked the relay and even swapped it with the brake light relay, last week it stopped doing it and I couldn't get it to do it again till this morning, went to leave for work and same thing again.

Anyone had this issue?

Starter solenoid problem? Start button maybe?

Anyone? Help please!

Thanks

I'd try cleaning the starter switch. Get some spray electrical contact cleaner-cover the tank-remove switch housing covers and hose it down inside the switch area.
Hopefully this works for you.

I have changed the bars, but that was a year and a half ago. Did it the winter before last, winter 2014.

I will definitely try the contact cleaner. Not a lot of current draw through the switch, although the weather could have an effect I suppose?

Anyone had issues with the starter solenoid?

I had the same thing happin with my wide glide and it was the starter relay. They arnt water proof and there was some water in the relay causing it to send constant power to the starter. They are cheap so I'd get a new one

You mean the small relay in the fuse panel right?

I actually swapped it out with the brake light relay (they are identical)

I figured I'd try it and see, when I did the swap that night everything seemed to be fine again so I thought I had it licked. Figured I'd pick up a new relay and all would be good.

Then as I mentioned this morning it's doing it again so now I have to assume it's not the relay.

Yep that's the one. Start with the cheapest easiest part that could be the problem.
The starter relay on my bike at so much water in it that as soon as you turn the key on you can actually hear the water sizzling

Wow!

Ok, good to know.

I'll check mine again, but I don't think they were wet. I suppose it's possible though.

Does it do it when the light relay is in the start relay slot?
After this happens and you turn the Ign. off does it do it again the next time you turn the Ign. on?
When it does this is the kill switch off?
I'll attach a couple pictures so you can see the circuit.
I agree it seems the contact in the start relay is made and as soon as you turn the Ign on it would send 12V to the start solenoid. Check the connection on the starter solenoid and make sure it's tight. It's a long shot but high current can damage relay contacts.
Good Luck
