My wife had a SG for 3 plus years. When we shopped for a new 15 we took out the SGS and RGS for side by side testing. I was expecting her to go SGS...as soon as we pulled over from her turn on the RGS she said no contest and wouldn't let me ride it any longer. She'll never go back.

I like the looks of the RG "fugly" fairing, especially frontal view but I've been riding batwings a long time, and it seems (at least) to me that the batwings are close enough to the ride to provide more protection from rain, hail, etc.
I wonder if/when H-D make a "fugly" and/or CVO Tri-Glide?

It took a few years for the shark nose to grow on me but I like the way they look now. The wind has to be really strong before it bothers the bike at all and passing tractor trailers is easier than any bike I have ever had. There can't be a better touring bike out there.

I'm a very logical person, and I do my research. When I was ready to go to a Touring model, I had my heart set on a Road King. I started talking to highly experienced riders, Bonneville speed record holders, drag race record holders, Harley motor builders, MSF instructors, etc. They all asked me pretty much the same question: "Why did you buy a Super Glide?", (my last bike). I told them because I really like to ride, and while I'm too old to be stupid anymore, I do like to push it just a little bit in the twisties. I do like to ride.
Every single one of them told me the same thing: "Get a Road Glide".
They shared the same reasons you've probably heard: that getting the weight of the fairing and all the electronics off of the front fork significantly improves the low speed maneuverability, and the fact that the fairing is attached to the frame makes a huge difference in high winds, cross winds, buffeting, and passing trucks.
However, I was just talking Saturday with a long time RG owner. Actually, he still has a Tour Glide. He shared another reason, and it's one I never even thought about. He said over the years he's hit five deer, and never even came close to going down. Never even came close. Not only does the fixed fairing take the hit, it transfers the impact straight back along the frame, and, just as important, nothing hits the handlebars. He said the bike basically just plowed ahead. He calls the RG fairing his "deer catcher".
I'm now taking all the local rides and comparing speeds and handling in the curves, compared to my Super Glide. There is no comparison. This bike would eat my Dyna for lunch. Seriously, 20 mph over the advisory signs is nothing.
Best bike I've ever ridden. I think I'll keep it.
