Default De-Catting Issue on a 2014 SG. Need help fast.

Hello everyone...

So I pulled my exhaust, then cut a window into it where the CAT resides, as many pictures show. No issues.

I pulled the cut out (window) off with no issues.

However, the cat honey combed material appears to be aluminum and I am having a heck of a time removing it.

I was under the impression that the CAT was made of a clayish or ceramic material and would fall apart real easily...

How do I remove this aluminum material with out beating the crap out of my exhaust?

You have to dig it out. I drilled mine out with a spade drill. Grind or cut it out. It has a metal honey comb from what I saw from mine.

It's industrial grade platinum. Soft and sticky. Just takes work.

OK... got the bulk of it out.
Now the hard part appears to be the thin layer of glue/Cat that remains on the inside walls of the exhaust.
How clean do the walls need to be and what would you all recommend to do this?

Flap disc chucked up in a good drill will work.

Not understanding your statement.
After I get the bulk of the CAT out, how do I remove the residue and thin layer of CAT that is stuck to the inside of the pipe? Appears to be adhesive and CAT stuck together.

How clean does the inside have to be?

Clean it out with a sanding disc or grinder

A flap disc is an abrasive bit made up of strips that resemble sand paper that is attached to your drill. Think 40 grit paddle tire. Personally I used a sacrificial 1/4 wood chisel to clean mine out. I removed all the material.

I work in industrial maintenance. We use a lot of abrasive applications that I have been able to use on modifying bike parts. Check out Grainger's site. Under metalworking and abrasives should find what you need.
