I dislike heel shifters also, and used the Kuryakyn piece to fill the gap. Looks nice, and works perfectly!

My excess splines are just left exposed, never thought about the covers. I did realize very soon that the heel lever had to go.

Huh. Don't know if the splines and size are the same, or not. Worse comes to worse, you could flip the herl shifter around to work as a toe shifter. Dont know about the length differences.

Might be what was done with my bike. The toe shifter is on the outer splines, the hose piece is covering the inner splines.

The heel shifter was the first thing that came off the bike when it got home (followed promptly by the side reflectors) - I picked up a spacer and installed it for the toe shifter to cover the splines and keep it at the right distance from the frame.

I removed my heal shifter and cut the splined shaft down so that it could only mount the toe shifter. It's a clean look too. No need to the fancy cap or spacer.

Used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel and then a sanding drum to clean up the end. It aluminum, so it's doesn't corrode/rust.

A lot of good solutions. Some guys have been really creative and made their own "caps" to hide the spline. Not sure I would cut mine off though. I usually try to preserve things so I can go back to stock in the event the "next" owner likes things differently than I like.

Regardless of the path you take, I also dislike the heel shifter and removed it from every HD I've owned. Guess it comes from riding a lot of other bikes over the years with only toe shifters. Habits.

Wow the Harley one was the cheapest. I don't think I would pay that much for something like that. Well I guess I would. Never mind.

I just use the toe shifter , leave it where it is now and get the chrome shaft cover. It will also keep your shifter from falling off should it gets loose as mine did !!
