I would ether cap or space it your choice + to avoid any exspossed spline damage.

On my Heritage I removed the heel shifter arm and put on the HD cap to give it a more finished look. I just removed the shifter on the Limited and left the arm.

Back in 2000 I bought a Heritage and I had never had a heel shifter before so I removed it and cut the excess splines off. Has been perfect since. Well last year I bought a 2014 Limited and decided to try the heel shifter. After lowering it to just high enough so I could still shift gears, I have become fond of it. Now when I ride the Heritage, I miss the heel shifter. I wish I had used a spacer like some suggest.

First thing to go was the heel shifter. I went with a pingel as well, mine is black and looks like it belongs there...

I must be the odd man here, but I absolutely LOVE my heel shifter! I'd NEVER take it off!

I enjoy a heel shifter too. But i enjoy being able to move my foot all around that footboard even more.

I don't use the heel shifter but I know there's a longer one available that allows better foot placement.
