Default Ignition switch alignment tool

I'm wanting to pull my ignition switch and accessory switch panel. For those of you that built the alignment tool, what size copper tubing did you get? 1/4", 5/16", or what?

Yeah, I was just watching that on youtube. It doesn't say what size tubing he used to make the tool, so that's my question.

I have an 05, and it appears to be different than in the video. With it rotated far left past fork lock the corner of the switch where the release button should be does not clear the fairing and I can't get my finger under it. When viewed from the side I don't see the button either. I'll have to get my manual out.

Yeah, that one is mentioned in Larry's link, but I don't want to wait on it.

With the bars straight, pull the ignition out.
Take the lower console off without moving the bars full left. Keep as straight as possible.
Now put the ignition back in.
You may now move the bars/fork left to right etc like normal without the forks being locked or worrying about the switch tumblers getting out of whack.

Really no need for a "tool".
