Default knock off exhausts

so I am looking for some pipe for my road glide and search ebay. To my somewhat surprise come up a bunch of pipes. clearly they are knock offs (one site even says that they are knockoffs). I see that they have sold a bunch of these slip ons. Has anyone on here ever bought some of these pipes. seems kind of crazy to spend this much on a bike and to go cheap on the exhaust. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

Decide what sound/loudness you want then find out what mufflers produce that sound. Bike nights and Harley shop functions are great research places. When you have narrowed your search down to two or three brands/models look on the forum and ebay. In time you will see a new or like new set for sale at well below retail. I've bought HD SE sets several times for 50% or less of retail. I recently saw several Rush products for under 150 on ebay.

I have three slip ons in mind, big louie, rinehart 4" and vance and hines 4". I am also looking at the screaming eagle street cannons. You do not have to do any tuning with the street cannons according to the literature. thats kind of a big deal because the tuner is about 300 bucks added to the cost of the pipes.

Since you believe in what you pay for I suggest going with a name brand. Endless threads here on people's opinions as to what sound/looks/performs the best.

I've posted this before but a buddy was bragging that he bought a set of CFR's from ebay for $500, new. I was immediately suspicious of that. 1 - It sounded like crap; 2- There was no CFR logo the muffler.

Yeah, he got ripped off, thinking he had CFR's but was sold the knockoffs. Not trying to rub it in to a friend but when our bikes are near each other, the difference btwn the authentic vs. the knockoff is obvious.

Those knock offs can be had for like 167..id be pissed lol,, the best way to find am exhaust is by hearing them in person.. Most videos don't have good enough sound quality.. Hang around a dealer on a weekend and ask around.

Spend a little more and get a branded one so that you can be sure of the quality.

I listened to some exhaust sounds on youtube. even though there are a lot of factors in listening to videos on you tube, it was pretty obvious that the knock offs did not sound right at all. Basically, to me they sound sloppy. they are off the radar and its down to vance and hines and rineharts.
