Default Oldstyle FLH hard saddlebags on a Road King

Hey guys, I really like the look of 63-84 era FLH hard saddlebags - white color oldschool reflectors etc. (not the bubble style but one series later).

I've seen some people put them on a softail and dyna models.

Question - would it be possible to fit them on a 2013 Road King?!

With modification of course. Has anyone done it? Seen it?

The problem I see are the shocks... I have to go to garage to check it out, but the new bags are recessed in the shock area. Custom brackets are the answer - but not sure if they would hang out too much then...

Wink

I had a shovel with those bags way back and the mouldings are identical, left and right. They are very small, compared with modern ones, and didn't have any shocks cutouts, but that was because they are mounted to the rear of the shocks on those bikes. Installed on a modern bike I doubt if that would be a problem, they will simply need to clear the shocks. The mounting frames for them are very simple, so could be readily adapted.

You can get a measure of them by looking at an on-line parts website. You could alternatively do as I have and simply use a set of modern bags and paint them birch white. I even have the shovel era reflectors, with chrome surrounds! They should be mounted on the lids at the front, to be more 'authentic'.

Thumbs up

I should have added that my wife and I visited Slovenia on our Glide a couple of years ago! In fact my sigpic is of the bike taking a rest in France, on the way back home from that trip.

I always thought that old bags got really saggy and floppy.
No, wait... sorry... carry on...
