Default Brand New TK with Low Coolant

I took delivery 3 weeks ago on a brand new 2016 TK. Should I be bothered by low coolant? It's only off the cold mark by a little. Still.

I guess you'll check coolant like you do oil and tire pressure and the other pre-ride checks.

If you notice a trend or leak that could be a warranty item.

do check that your bike isn;t subject to the recall notice for early wetheads

Yeah if it was me I'd fill it, not because it's bad to run it where it's at, but simply to bring the level to the full mark. That's what the mark is for, right?

On the other hand, keeping your eye on the level to make sure it remains constant (even if it is a 1/2" or so low) is the most important thing you can do.

Since the bike is new, why don't you just stop by your dealer and have them top it off.

In any case, continue to monitor the level for a while until you have confidence that you're not slowly losing coolant.

No. I wouldn't worry... likely filled a couple of air voids somewhere.

I bought a gallon, keep it on the shelf. Haven't added in a long time.

If you were closer I'd top it off for you. Likely if you stop by a dealer, they will too.

Thanks everyone. I took it to the dealer. The service manager was great. They checked all fluid levels and filled the coolant for me. Was told that it was more than likely air trapped within the system. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks again, folks. -Matt

I noticed this on my 2016, almost exactly like the picture. Now knowing that first wet heads had problems, I was curious. My bike was serviced by dealer at 1000 miles, doesn't leak fluid. So I checked 4 other new bikes of friends, each serviced at different dealers for their 1000 mile service. Exactly same level! Now I'm wondering, do any of the dealers check the fluid or has there been some kind of tech bulletin that he public doesn't know about. Check yours and post. If you have spoken to a Harley tech that you trust let us know what his explanation is.

NO.

GEESH dude!/LOL!!!

If thats all you have to complain & or worry about with a brand new HD your doing very good IMHO.

So just fill it to cold line (with bike cold!) & keep an eye out on coolant lvl and or for a small coolant leak coming from the motor and or cooling system components & plumbing in general and if you seen any take bike in for warranty srvc.

Good luck.

Scott

Not that i know of, mine is an RCH below the line and has been since August '15.

It is topped of, now ride it and check it as you would your engine oil, before each ride.
