Default Still a bit confused about torx.......

Do you need to get a torx bit set (the kind that goes on a screw driver handle, or a torx bit onsockets setthat you use on a 1/4 or 3/8 ratchet? Also....the torx screws on a harley are standard torx.??, not plus or tamper proof ( what ever that means?) Correct.. If you use the torx on the end ofscrew driver type, how do you torque those to specs? Don't you have to use the socket type torx with torgue wrench?

Thanks inadvance for your help in clearing up my stupidity.

I have both. The driver type are handy for small torx sizes, while the 1/4 and 3/8 drive are good for larger sizes or when you need a little more torque or a torque wrench. They are standard numbered sizes.

Same, 3/8 drive, look just like my regular sockets on a clip rail.

Do you actuallly use a regular torque wrenchwith the torx bit scokets on alll the cover plates? The HD manual gives torques for just about every screw on the bike?

Harley does NOT use "tamper proof" torx screws, so no worries there. I have a set of 1/4 (smaller bits), and 3/8 drive bits. You can get a screwdriver handle with a 1/4" drive on it to start the screws, and then put the bit on a QUALITY torque wrench (NOT a beam wrench, but digital or click from a GOOD company) for the final tightening.

I only have torx sockets and I haven't had any issues yet. However, I have only done my handlebars and I messed with that bracket in the back (T-40).

Be careful using a Torx screwdriver. It might not have enough strength to turn the screw and stripit. When in doubt go with a socket.

Get the sockets, no way i know to torque to specific with screw driver bits. Most torx require more torque than you can get with a screw driver.
