Default Transmission curiousity

Does anyone know if the 6 speed tranny out a 2010 FLHX 98 cu.in. would fit a 2006 FLHX 96 cu.in? I have the option to buy just the tranny from a local or the whole package motor and tranny. I have some work into my 96 and would hate to toss it away and start over. Plus I don't know if the harness is different between the 2 either. Not to mention the $$$ difference.

Thanks

I assume that the 2010 is a 96 and the 2006 is a 98?

Doesn't really matter though. As far as I know, the trans won't bolt up to your 2006 and it would take some work to get the complete powertrain into your bike. You'd also be giving up a bunch of performance going from your built engine to a stock one.

last I checked the 2006 had the smaller engine....lol
But yes regardless I believe you are correct. I think the frame in narrow in comparison to the frame of the 2010.
Just yearning for that 6th gear......oh well!

A stock 2006 would be an 88. His modified bike could be a 98" big bore. The 2010 should be a 96 but I don't think there's any way that it could be a 98.

It's neither here nor there though because we both agree that it won't fit

Best way to have 6 gears is a Baker DD6. That's on my wish list (after suspension, engine, etc, lol)

Don't give up on the 6 speed, highly recommend Baker 6 speed for your bike. Especially if you plan on keeping this bike.

The '06 is a 5-speed TC88 and the '10 is a 6-speed TC96. The TC96 family all have a very different trans casing which is not interchangeable with one from a TC88. So no, that swap won't work. Part of the reason is that the TC96 has internal oil passages, not external oil pipes.

I should add that there are 6-speed gear clusters available that will fit your trans casing, including SE OD6, plus Baker OD6 and DD6.

Here's what they're talking about why it won't fit. Look at the front of the older transmission case where the #15 is. Note that there are no oil passages between the two. Instead there are oil lines from the engine into the transmission case.

Now look at the newer trans case just above the 11-15 numbers are. Those oil passages are now a part of the A motor/trans cases with a gasket in between.
