Mileage Elite 3 vs. American Elite on '08 and older
I'd like to hear from those who have used both Elite 3 MU90B16 and the American Elite MU85B16 rear tires about how they compared regarding tread ware. I've searched and found all kinds of info about both of these tires, but have found nothing that gives a direct comparison of these two tires in these sizes, regarding their ware on the same motorcycle.
I'm currently running an Elite 3 MU90B16, and it appears at this point that it's lasting longer than the previous 402 MU85B16's. I'd say that I'm presently on the last 1/3 of the Elite 3's life. Since i'm planning a long touring trip this summer (6000 + miles), when I replace this tire I'd like to put on the longest mileage tire I can. Sharing your experience with these two tires, in these sizes, would be much appreciated.

I have a 2008 SG. My last two replacement rear tires were Elite3's. Never had any issues at all. I am running an American Elite rear in the stock size. I have about 6 or 7 thousand miles on it now. I would say it's wearing much better than the E3. With the middle tread having a harder compound. So for I'm extremely happy with the American Elite. JR

I was curious how the American Elite's stack up. I have been running the Elite 3's on an 06 Road King for the past 5 years. I have been getting in the area of 15k per set on the rears, and have close to 30k on the front. I see the place I normally get them does not carry the MT90B16 for the front. So I am looking at the American Elite's now. I assume they are the replacement for the E3's? I love the E3's and hope I can get the same wear and ride from the AE's.

I have run both on my 07. I actually prefer the handling of the E3. Both tires are much better than the 402 for traction especially when wet. They still make the the front in E3. It's just the sizing is renamed 130/90B16 now. Same exact tire according to Dunlop. I average about 6 to 7 thousand miles on stock D402 at the rear. 10,000 miles on E3 at the rear and I have about 8000 miles on the rear AE now. It's about 2/3's done. I expect to get 4 to 6 thousand more miles out of it. Strangely I got 25,000 miles out of front D402.
