Missed this one myself. Truth in words.

Just rinse it off every day, wash good when you get home and you will be fine. I spend every winter here for the last three years, anytime I ride or park along A1A I come home and wash the bike before I put it in the garage. No problems with rust. I do not ride on the beach in the car or on the bike.

I have lived in Daytona for the last 5 years, wash your bike, you will be fine. I give my bike a good coat of wax 2 or 3 times a year and spray wax after washes, still looks new. Really the only problem was trailering down from NY for Bike Week. It seems the Caroliner's use some 'gel' the the roads for de-iceing and that crap eat's up chrome bad.

Again, don't send all you time down here washing the bike, it's really not that bad.

Be Safe, JIM

Are you planning on driving in the ocean? If not, find a new mechanic, because that clown doesn't know what he is talking about.

A good coat of wax on everything before you go will make a big difference as well. My Heritage will be making lucky trip #13 this year and shows no real effects from the sea air. Every one of those years, I've stayed right on the beach.
I clean and wax before I leave, a few washes down there, and another good cleaning when I get home.

I rode from Flagler to Daytona on A1A one morning and the onshore breeze was stiff, the air was wet and sort of foggy and I could see the salt on my windshield. The people who rented houses directly on A1A were all wiping their bikes down and they appeared soaking wet with salty air. A few blocks back from the sea everything was dry. I wouldn't worry about it in the least and I'm pretty crazy about keeping my stuff clean. A good washing when you get home and all will be fine.

Yup, us guys that live here have to replace our bikes two or three time a year. It is not like riding on a street that has SALT along the roads and such. We don't even put salt on Tequilla shots anymore.

How bad is it going to be or is this something that I should not worry about? He claims that I will need to pull the bike apart and clean everything when I get home or before I leave. I looked into renting but I just don't have the extra grand to rent a bike when I am down there. Has anyone had any experience with this type of thing?
