Default Alarm/immobilizer isn't working?

This morning I took out my Triumph for a short spin, came home and jumped on the Harley and rode it for a short while. When I came home and back into the house I realized I had never picked up the key/fob from the house. The bike stared up and took off, no chirp, no flashing lights etc. What happend to my alarm/immobilizer?

Maybe nothing. Did you start the bike within range of your fob? If you did, and if you didn't stop the engine anywhere along the way, the bike would behave normally, just as if you had the fob with you.

Yep, the FOB is only used to allow the bike to start.
As long as you don't shut the engine down, you can ride all you want without the FOB.
Once the engine is shut down, you will either need an active FOB in range or know how to use your security over ride pin.

Another possibility (and plenty of riders do this), is they have a 2nd FOB stored somewhere on the bike and they forgot it was there.

There is another possibility: the dealer never activated the fobs on my 11 heritage. I was driving around for months thinking I had security on the bike and I didn't. Never figured it out until it was in for work months later.

Agreed. Happened to my mom before with her bike. Key fob was in range at the house, bike started fine and got to a destination 35 miles away. Tried to start again and bike wouldn't start because the key fob obviously was no longer in range. My dad had to run home and get the key fob. Bike started like its supposed to after he got back with the key fob.

Hopefully they learned a lesson there, and now know how to manually override the system with the PIN.

I think the fob was too close even though it was in the house. It's always protested in the past when I forgot it. I moved out further away this morning and it chirpped. Guess I should have checked that before I whined/questioned
you guys.
