Default Some advice on a RK

OK so I'm starting the process of looking for my new bike. I was leaning twords the SG but now the RK as it looks like there are better deals out there than on the street glides. And I do like the fact that I can throw a windshield or faring on it for weekend rides and strip it for back for to work.
I have about 12,000 to spend. Trying hard to keep it 12 or under because I"ll still have tax tag etc.
Just wondering what you guys thought about some of these deals in my area. Im looking in craigslist and I need to hit up cycle trader too.
Im trying to look at something with lower miles.
Any suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

as the 2nd ad touches on, cop bikes often have the cop stuff hacked off- this can require examination of the wiring to make sure nothing is going to short out on you.
( and if you buy it I want the cop seat and shock- ok?)

also with cop bikes, see if the floorboards are all ground up from scraping- if so, that could be a training bike and teh clutch and brakes may be heavily worn.

cop bikes are generally very plain and black- a GREAT platform for a custom

the first bike looks pretty good- but you have to go kick tires.

the 2009 has a detachable tourpak kit- which can be handy...worth maybe $600 if you want that option- the "special edition is the pinstripes and badgers

the 2010 has alot of geegaws added, maybe of value to you or not...the flame striping will appeal to some

all the touring models of the same year are the same with the exception of the plastic, speakers and badgers.

if the radio has no value for you, then the RK is a great choice....

sit down with your budget and get what you really can afford...maybe the older bike can be a better financial choice- although a newer bike would be nice

Mike

The only downside I can see is, they are all black bikes...Take a few test rides if they will let you. It's a buyers market out there. Plenty of good bikes to be found. Ask to see some any paperwork they have on repairs, maintenance etc.

I bought a used 2011 RKC last fall and will also install a faring that is currently mounted on my Fatboy. Take your time and get a 103" with cruise and perhaps abs. I think it comes as a package. Living in Cal, bikes are a premium. I bought out of state and saved thousands. Shipping cross country cost $450-$500. The sellers local Harley Dealership inspected the bike for me and held the bike until the shipper arrived. All this for only $40. Not sure if this is a typical rate.

Yes, and out of the box my impression is that the 96" has better low end torque than the 103". I also think that the 96" is proven bullet proof, and the 103" is in the process of doing the same thing, though it seems to require a little more mod work in order to be as "peppy" as the 96" seems to be with less. To be clear, I am strictly talking about torque.

I currently have a Road Glide with a 107", but I LOVE Road Kings. I haven't looked at the bikes you're considering, but I would encourage you to find a completely stock King that appeals to you, one that's been well taken care of, and make it your own over time. I did that with a 2005 RK Custom, and until she met her demise due to my own negligence nearly 4 years ago, she spoke to me in very dark and dirty ways. I loved that bike (as I have stated a number of times in as many posts since she slipped from my hands).

Good luck in your search.

Does anyone think this https://tricities.craigslist.org/mcy/5383576533.html

is worth 16 or maybe 15?? There are 2 of these within 3 hours of me both are asking 16000 and both have under 1500 miles. And in my mind that = brand new for the most part.
Is there anything really special about the 110 anniversary edition vs standard edition? I couldnt find much special about it except that amazing paint.
